The Great Debate DISH Network or DirecTV

Having been a DISH Network customer since 1997, I thought I’d share my thoughts and opinions about the competition between DISH Network and DirecTV.
First of all, there really isn’t a huge difference between the two systems. It all comes down to what you want for programming. They both offer much the same things, but there are a couple of things one has over the other. For example, DirecTV has NFL Sunday Ticket and Dish Network doesn’t, but they both have NHL Center Ice. As a Canadian, that’s a plus.
They both have the same amount of Pay-Per-View channels, but DirecTV has about 30 more 100% digital channels than Dish Network. Both provide High Definition programming and that’s the hot thing now. When I watch a hockey or football game on ESPN and then turn to the same game on ESPN-HD, there’s NO comparison. HD is like watching the show like you’re actually there. The picture is crystal clear and bright. DiscoveryHD and HDNET are the best for this type of viewing.
Another thing I love about satellite is my DVR recorder. I can watch one show, and record another. I also like that when I record a show in HD, it plays back in HD. Remember those days when you’d tape a show, only to play it back with bad tracking and crappy picture quality? Ugh, I don’t miss those days at all. In fact my VCR is sitting in our garage collecting dust.
And let’s not forget that you can pause live TV. That’s right. I can hit the pause button, go tend to something for however long, come back and resume what I’m watching without missing a thing. Both systems have this awesome feature and it’s worth every penny.
This leads me to the final point of this article; pricing and options. Both companies offer quick and free installation. In fact, DISH Network boasts that they’ll install a system within 24 hours! Both offer a free HD DVR upgrade and DirecTV offers the first month of programming free on their most popular package. DISH Network is offering $100 back AND 3 months free of STARZ movie pack.
So there you have it. If you’re looking to switch to satellite from cable, I hope this article has helped you in the decision making process. Both systems are excellent, and it just comes down to what you want, as the prices and programming is similar between the two systems.
